Think Golf was just for ladies over 50? Think again!
Last week I learnt how to hit a golf ball, what a driver was, how to hold a golf club, learnt to putt and hit a golf ball – as well as had fun and met some awesome chicks!
I attended a “Welcome to Swing Fit” at Northern Golf Club in Glenroy and had a pleasantly surprising afternoon with nine other women learning about golf, having a laugh at our (lack of) skills, and learning something new.
I met the gorgeous Sandie from thefitnessfootfiend and by the end of the session, we both said that Swing Fit definitely changed what we thought about golf – that it isn’t just for old men & women, and we learnt something new, and actually had a great time – laughing over our style, our “airies” and general lack of coordination!
Our instructors, Matt & Heath were fantastic, and made all us women feel comfortable learning something new – one lady hadn’t even picked up a golf club before, and wanted to try as her husband plays – and she was awesome! It was a great experience, and made me want to try it again – and even go for a hit of golf with my brother and Dad. ;)
What is Swing Fit?
Swing Fit is a six week program – made up of 75 minute sessions. You can expect to learn the basics of golf in a fun, social way – surrounded by other fit and active women! Don’t be surprised if you meet a new friend, like I did! The Swing Fit program can help improve your range of movement and flexibility, improve upper, mid and lower body conditioning and even your cardiovascular health.
- Take your stance and grip the club
- Swing and move your body like a golfer
- Hit the ball
- Putt with poise and precision
- Refine your aim
Each Swing Fit session has between 6-10 participants. All activities are designed to be completed in pairs and the approach includes a lot of games, so you’ll learn without even realising that’s what is happening. You’ll also have time to debrief at the end of each session. You can find out more over at the Swing Fit website.
What’s different about Swing Fit?
- You don’t have to wear specific golf gear – just wear what you’d normally wear to the gym
- The sessions cover off more than just golf lesson – you go through warm up and cool down exercises and pilates-style exercises to help your golf game
- It’s fun and certainly not daggy! ;)
