On I don’t know about you, but whenever I got to the big supermarkets I’m always dubious about the quality & freshness of their fruit and veggie produce. It never seems to last very long, and whenever I have had the opportunity to shop at local markets I know I’m getting fresher produce (and sometimes tastier too!) I would say at least for the past 5+ years I’ve been shopping on a regular basis, writing up a meal plan, looking through the fridge to see what I can use/what’s perished and shopping based on that for all my meals Sunday evening – Thursday evening.
It’s be a stock standard kind of shop, at least for my partner and I. We spend majority of our time at the supermarket in the fruit & veggie section, a bit in cold meats/fridge sections and then get staples, cleaning and staples like rice, muesli etc, tinned fish, a few sauces & spices and that’s about it. I like the ideas of fresh fruit and veg delivery and meal services, but the one thing that puts me off – food wastage of things I don’t like that can’t sub-out in an order.
Recently I had the opportunity to test out Real Food Grocer‘s Couples Fruit & Veggie Box delivery and was pleasantly surprised with the service & quality of the food.
I loved that I could customised the order of the Couples Fruit & Veggie Box – there were several items that I don’t usually buy (that I knew would go to waste), so I subbed them for things I knew I would eat – more sweet potato, broccoli and bananas.
The order process was pretty straight forward when I realised I could sub out some items too. Mind you I was ordering off my phone, so the display was a little strange, but the process was straight forward. For $49 I think it’s great value for fresh Aussie produce. One thing I did find strange, was not knowing exactly when the box was going to be delivered, I had to email them to ask when it would arrive. Other than that it was great!
I loved using the veggies through the week and made this yummy stir fry with some broccoli I had in the fridge along with the book chop, carrot, onions and chilli from my box of veggies.
Have you ever ordered veggie or fruit boxes or meal boxes?
